Berluti - Gaspard Galet Leather Oxford Shoe

Berluti has evolved from a single-master shoemaker into a holistic luxury menswear house, celebrated for its bespoke tradition, signature leatherwork, and lifestyle vision.

Founded in Paris in 1895 by Italian shoemaker Alessandro Berluti, the house of Berluti has carved a singular identity in the world of luxury menswear. What began with the crafting of a seamless leather oxford—the now-iconic “Alessandro” shoe—evolved into a maison synonymous with patinated perfection, artistic expression, and discreet elegance.

From the start, Berluti transcended utility. Under the eye of Olga Berluti, the founder’s great-granddaughter and a visionary in her own right, the brand became a beacon for discerning aesthetes such as Andy Warhol, Jean Cocteau, and the Duke of Windsor. Her introduction of the patina technique—transforming fine Venezia leather into a canvas of nuance and depth—became a house signature, and a metaphor for Berluti’s enduring philosophy: beauty is born of craftsmanship, but elevated through emotion.

Though first and foremost a master shoemaker, Berluti has extended its savoir-faire into the realm of bespoke tailoring. Following its acquisition of the Parisian tailor Arnys in 2012, Berluti launched Grande Mesure, a full bespoke service offering garments constructed entirely by hand, in Paris ateliers, for the man who seeks not only fit but individuality. From precise pattern-cutting to hand-sewn buttonholes, each suit or overcoat embodies a philosophy of wearable art.

Their bespoke footwear, meanwhile, remains one of the most intricate expressions of artisanal dedication in the world: over 250 operations, more than 50 hours of labor, and a patina process tailored to the client’s vision and lifestyle.

At its core, Berluti exists to offer a refined art de vivre for the modern gentleman. The brand’s mission is not trend-driven, but timeless—anchored in the quiet strength of tradition, artistry, and personal expression. Under the leadership of Antoine Arnault, Berluti has embraced a philosophy of “quiet luxury”: one that values understatement, material excellence, and a relationship-based approach to clientele.

This refined ethos is mirrored in every Berluti offering—from richly patinated loafers to ready-to-wear tailoring that fuses heritage with modernity. In a market often clamoring for noise, Berluti’s voice remains calm, confident, and deeply considered.

Berluti’s aesthetic is best described as audacious classicism: rooted in timeless lines, but never afraid of bold color or unexpected texture. Their patinas range from deep tobacco to stormy amethyst, often applied in multiple layers to achieve a painterly finish. This same ethos carries into their clothing—tailoring with just enough eccentricity to stand apart, yet always grounded in expert technique.

Creative directors such as Alessandro Sartori, Haider Ackermann, and Kris Van Assche have each added layers of modernity, drama, and clarity to the house, all while respecting its artisanal soul.
